Fountain Design & Restoration · San Miguel de Allende

Fountains Designed to Be Beautiful
and Built to Work.

From restoring a historic courtyard fountain to creating a completely new centerpiece, SMA Home Services manages the entire project under one architect-led team: design, local craftsmanship, plumbing, electrical, waterproofing and lighting.

One Architect. One Team. From Design to First Drop.

Architect-Led New Fountains Restoration Plumbing & Electrical Lighting

Part of the Architecture

More Than a Fountain. Part of the Architecture.

In San Miguel de Allende, a fountain can define an entire courtyard, garden, entryway or terrace. But a successful fountain requires much more than selecting stone and adding water.

The proportions must work with the architecture.

The water must circulate properly.

The basin must be correctly waterproofed.

The pump must be accessible for maintenance.

Electrical components must be safely installed.

Lighting should enhance the fountain without overpowering it.

That is why our fountain projects are managed by an architect from concept through installation. Instead of coordinating a designer, cantera supplier, plumber, electrician and lighting installer yourself, SMA Home Services brings the complete team together.

Materials & Details

Depending on the architecture of the property, fountain designs may incorporate:

Cantera stone

Traditional carved cantera and locally inspired stonework.

Talavera tile

Decorative backgrounds, borders and custom tile compositions.

Natural stone

Elegant options for both traditional and contemporary homes.

Plaster & masonry

Custom-built basins, niches, walls and architectural surrounds.

Metal details

Decorative iron or bronze-inspired elements where appropriate.

Restoration

Preserve the Character. Upgrade the Systems.

Older fountains are one of the most beautiful features of San Miguel homes, but many have been repaired repeatedly without addressing the underlying problem. Our team evaluates the entire fountain before recommending repairs.

Restoration may include

  • Repairing damaged masonry or cantera
  • Replacing deteriorated grout or joints
  • Waterproofing basins
  • Repairing leaks
  • Replacing pumps
  • Correcting water circulation
  • Cleaning mineral and calcium buildup
  • Repairing or replacing plumbing
  • Improving drainage
  • Updating electrical connections
  • Adding new architectural lighting
  • Restoring Talavera or decorative elements
  • Refinishing surrounding walls and surfaces

The objective is not simply to make an old fountain look better. It is to restore its architectural character while improving how the entire system works.

Fountain Plumbing

The Beauty Is Above the Water. The Engineering Is Below It.

A fountain that continually loses water, has weak circulation or requires constant pump replacement usually has a problem somewhere within the system. Our plumbing team can evaluate and coordinate:

  • Recirculation systems
  • Fountain pumps
  • Supply and return lines
  • Valves
  • Drainage and overflow systems
  • Water-level controls
  • Leak detection
  • Pipe replacement
  • Pump accessibility
  • Existing fountain plumbing repairs

For new fountains, plumbing is planned before construction, allowing the mechanical system to integrate cleanly into the design.

Fountain Electrical

Safe Power for Pumps, Lighting & Controls.

Water and electricity require careful coordination. SMA Home Services brings electrical specialists into the project as part of the same team responsible for the fountain. Electrical work can include:

  • Dedicated fountain circuits
  • Pump electrical connections
  • Fountain lighting
  • Switches, controls and timers
  • Electrical protection
  • Wiring replacement
  • Troubleshooting existing systems
  • Coordination with home automation or exterior lighting

There is no need to hire a separate electrician after the fountain has already been built. The electrical requirements are coordinated from the beginning.

Architectural Lighting

Make the Fountain Come Alive at Night.

The right lighting can completely change a courtyard after sunset. Instead of simply placing a bright fixture in front of the fountain, we consider the stone, water movement, architectural background and surrounding space.

Lighting options can include

  • Subtle underwater lighting
  • Concealed architectural lighting
  • Accent lighting and wall washing
  • Uplighting for cantera details
  • Illuminated niches
  • Garden lighting integrated around the fountain
  • Warm ambient lighting for courtyards and terraces

The goal is to reveal the texture, movement and architecture of the fountain while creating a comfortable nighttime atmosphere.

How We Plan It

Every fixture has a job.

Before anything is wired, we map each light to a purpose: basin lights for the water, narrow beams for the streams, concealed spots for the sculpture and the crest, and grazing uplights for the carved columns. Warm 2700 to 3000K throughout, and IP68-rated wherever a fixture touches water.

Our Approach

One Architect. One Team. Zero Contractor Juggling.

A fountain may involve five different specialties. With SMA Home Services, you have one point of responsibility.

1

On-Site Assessment

We visit your property, evaluate the space or existing fountain, review the plumbing and electrical conditions, and understand what you want to accomplish.

2

Architectural Concept

For new fountains or major redesigns, we develop the proportions, materials, architectural style and relationship between the fountain and the surrounding property.

3

Technical Coordination

Plumbing, electrical, lighting, waterproofing and construction requirements are coordinated before the work begins.

4

Construction or Restoration

Our trusted team of local tradespeople and artisans completes the work under architect supervision.

5

Testing & Final Walk-Through

We test the water circulation, pump, lighting and completed finishes before the final project review.

Why SMA Home Services

Your Fountain Shouldn't Require Five Different Contractors.

A typical fountain project can involve an architect, a stone artisan, a mason, a plumber, an electrician and a lighting specialist. When each works independently, details can easily fall between the cracks. SMA Home Services coordinates them under one project.

One Architect.

A professional overseeing the complete design and execution.

One Team.

Trusted local artisans and specialized trades working together.

One Point of Contact.

Clear communication without managing multiple contractors yourself.

One Complete Project.

Design, construction, restoration, plumbing, electrical and lighting coordinated from beginning to end.

Repair or Redesign?

Fountain Repair or Complete Redesign?

Not every fountain needs to be replaced. If you already have one, we can evaluate whether the best solution is to:

01

Repair

Correct an isolated plumbing, pump or electrical issue.

02

Restore

Preserve the existing fountain while repairing its structure and systems.

03

Redesign

Retain part of the existing fountain while transforming its appearance.

04

Replace

Create a completely new fountain when the existing structure no longer works for the property.

Our first step is understanding what you already have before recommending what should come next.
